George
A name connected with fame
From Washington to Floyd––
Steller, even the pope is Jorge––
Now George is enshrined in
A terrible history, no mystery why;
He died in an act which defames
All who claim fellowship in
Humanity’s name.
Perfect, no, none can so acclaim;
It’s now up to all to reclaim
The right to proclaim
That mankind acts in the name
Of peace, kindness and love
Giving hope to us all that
We answer God’s call
To live under his law
With faith hope and compassion,
Love embracing
Replacing the hatred of other
Remembering each as our brother
For as we’ve been told
Two commandments prevail
To love both God and
Our neighbor. Of late
The Samaritan stood alone,
But no longer, for thousands
Demand, march in bold unity,
Community grown by the day
––Sown by the seeds of abuse
Watered by privilege and hate––
We demand must reverse enmity
For charity, equity, equality,
As we walk in each other’s shoes.
Forge change in the name of George.
